Now, these are GOOD! I used them nearly all day yesterday on a return trip to Birmingham on the train. Comfortable but also with a great sound - punchy, excellent bass and very focused, highly recommended and remarkably economical. Easy to pair and a very useful feature - they are magnetic so form a wee necklace when not in your ears. Amazon says:

What's the little S-shaped piece between the micro-USB cable and the large ear-tips?

Steven, I believe that little S-shaped piece of plastic is for tying up the cord while wearing them so it doesn’t dangle as low.

Seren, no, the short cable goes round the back of your neck, does not need to be shortened and has volume control and mic in the wee black element to left side. The "S" shaped pieces, in three sizes to fit your ears, go into the top part of your ear to hold the transducer in place, along with three sizes of ear plug to get the best fit. 8/9/2017 05:47:24 pm
Steven, hi, the curly bits kind of screw into your ear! Not as uncomfortable as that sounds... you need to experiment with the theee sizes in the box but I found them comfortable.

Ahh, I hadn't realized you put the wire behind your neck. However I believe Steven is talking about the single S-shaped piece of plastic rather than the 6 C-shaped ear-pieces. From a bit of googling, it does appear to be to tie up the cord while in use (see https://longislandtechnologynews.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/wireless-workout-headphones-lowres-0358.jpg).

Seren, thanks - interesting! They look like the same earpieces but without the top-of-ear bits! My pair does not have a shortening loop like in the picture but another pair I tested http://www.davidsimister-architect.com/blog/aukey-wireless-ear-phones-ep-b29 has a similar pull-through bit. These however are not as good sounding!
